This piece is phenomenal with its perspective, lighting, and depth of field; I love what edges are accentuated and blurred to draw focus in the piece. The one thing that bugs me is the direction of the light, let me comment. Everything else in the piece implies that the ground is angled from the 'camera', but the light is straight up, so if the scene were redrawn so the 'camera' were aligned with the ground, we'd see the light as being emitted at an angle.
I find it interesting how you coloured the sky with dark colours like the arriving of a thunderstorm, not sure if you were purposely doing that. But it made me think of the challenges in the game especially the hike up the snowy mountain, but the sun shining through the clouds is like a silver lining where in the end you see clear blue skies and that beautiful song plays (fav moment in the game ) anyway, the artwork is epic. I love it.
I first saw this in that very video you mentioned, and it is, undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful Journey pieces I've ever seen, if not the most beautiful. Love the depth of field and detail, particularly in regards to the fact that the composition focuses on the mountain more than the traveler. Brilliant work!
It's a stronger image than the usual ones I've seen around dA on "The Journey". You chose to use stronger shadows and darker, straight lines. I love the perspective and the flowing scarwes and ribbons... they add a feeling of movement which is quite difficult to recreate. And the light coming from the mountain is beautiful. Nice. Very, very nice.
